TIGF!!! (That's Incredibly Gay Friday): Sizzler

I stole this picture from the Barstow, California Chamber of Commerce just to prove a point: That Sizzler is the fanciest restaurant in the town of Barstow. Seriously, every time I've gone down to San Diego or LA, I've stopped at Barstow and eaten at their famous Sizzler. In fact, I enjoyed it so much that my love for the restaurant became TIGF!!! In a good way, of course.

I remember as a kid thinking that the Sizzler was the best restaurant that one could go to. I used to day dream about getting the Steak and Malibu Chicken. The salad bar, omg! Are you freaking kidding me? I think I just had a cherry tomato orgasm in my mouth right now.

Why do I bring all of this Sizzler madness up? Well, last Wednesday was my treatment day and my mother came with me this time. We went to get lunch after and my mother practically demanded to go to Sizzler. I haven't been to a Sizzler in ages and was curious if its charms still had a hold on me.

Well, I had the Steak and Malibu Chicken and I must say two words: Steak? Malibu what the fuh? It tasted good but hardly looked real fancy. The best part was the cheese toast, I must say.

No, the best part was when some dork, yelling on his cell phone, exclaimed, "Guess where I am right now?", medium-sized pause,"Sizzler, dude!"

I can only imagine what the other dude's response was. I'm thinking that he replied, "No! Fucking! WAY!!!"

....And that is what I did on my Summer vacation.

Yay I'm first!

Ok, now that I've gotten THAt out of the way...

THe cherry tomato comment killed me. But what about the baby corns?! Holy crap the salad bar was a novelty as a kid.... ahh the good old days. We don't have Sizzler up here in The Canada, but we have similar restaurants, and let me tell you, as a kid, those places ROCKED.

Never will I forget the esctasy that was childhood trips to a salad bar.

No! Fucking! WAY! MAN!

Sizzler was always a great treat. I think they had the first salad bar in the world, right?

Me has great memories of Beefsteak Charlies. That's where mom took the family to feed for cheap.
We would sit down and pig out at the shrimp and salad bar for something like 40 minutes before placing our orders.
We also would go home with the steak knives tucked into our socks. It were the beginning of me training as Yankee, redneck white trash. which means that me cain't ever go into a restaurant without thinking about leaving with some kind of souvenier.
In fact, all me butter knives have some kind of airline logo stamped on them.

STOMP.

I used to think the Western Sizzlin Steakhouse was da bomb when I was a kid. It was the "new" and "fancy" steakhouse in the little town I grew up in. I thought my family was rich because we ate out there every other Friday. Nothing was more exciting than when my mom called me to come inside the house from playing with my Cabbage Patch Kids to get washed up so we could go to Western Sizzlin. Yay!

Now we make fun of it.

LOL, it sounds like a chain we have here called Bonanza. Do you have those there?

I think it's hilarious when things we used to think were so cool as a kid turn out to be just something to laugh about when revisited as an adult. I would include Michael Jackson and the Big Mack in that grouping.

Well, crud, the Sizzler here closed down. Now I guess I'll never get to experience Steak & Malibu Chicken. I know how to make cheese toast, though, and how to get the most out of a cherry tomato.:)

My parents still frequent the local Sizzler in their LA suburban city... but they are now all about the salad bar which consists of actual salads, fruits and a variety of fried foods and some bread pudding... ?

Maybe the guy said something like this:
sweet.... dude... what does mine say, "sweet"... "sweet what does mine say" "dude"

It's just like applebee's before it came to Canada, or white spot and bonanza. Oh and the McPizza from McD's... all the good stuff is gone :(

There are a lot of restaurant chains that haven't made it this far north yet, Sizzler being one. It's too bad 'cuz I could really go for a piece of cheese toast right about now.

Ah I have not been lured by the siren call of the Sizzler in quite a while. Such fond memories of endless salad bars and chocolate milk on tap. Perhaps I should open up a franchise up here in Canada.
