October Video Pick Friday!!! Pumpkinhead

It was a long time ago when I first saw this movie. It stars Lance Henriksen (of Aliens & Millennium fame). Lance plays a father whose boy is run over by a dirt bike and killed by some teens messing around at a general store. Long story short, the dad gets real pissed and seeks the help of a witch, who summons the evil monster known as "Pumpkinhead" to seek out and kill the teens.

This movie has the right amounts of stupid, scary, gore, and supernatural spookiness. It also is a bit of a morality tale about vengeance and has enough of a backwoods folk tale to keep it from being another throwaway monster flick.

I haven't seen the many sequels to this movie, so I can't vouch for them. But Pumpkinhead is a sure bet for a October weekend video party.

I'd suggest staying away from the sequels, but the original is indeed great; so good, in fact, that it even makes up for Lance Henriksen's creepy voice.

So was the boy run over by the dirt bike while shopping in the store? I'm generally only comfortable in stores that allow only pedestrian traffic.

Mmmm... pumpkins, pumpkin pies, pumpkin spice frappucinos, and such. It's Thanksgiving weekend here, and I'm all about the food.

I totally didn't get your Simpson reference from last post 'til you clarified it. I'm so ashamed. But as soon as you explained, I could hear the crazy Texan's OCD voice very clearly in my head.

Jay~ Lance is a super creep but in a good way.

Chris~ I never quite understood why someone would need to fire up their dirt bike and tear mother earth a new one right around the general store, but in B horror flicks the logic is a bit impaired. You need to see this movie just for the hilarious motor bike on kid action.

Christielli~ I forgot aboot Canadian Thanksgiving. As far as not figuring the Simpsons reference out the first time, I'm wondering what kind of drugs you thought I was on:D

So wanted to watch a horror flick Friday night, and I saw Pumpkinhead was on the On Demand menu, but, alas, our On Demand service was weirded up and wouldn't work. Thanks again, Comcast.
