It was a knockin'...

So, we let it out. My port removal surgery went well. I am in moderate pain at the moment. The hospital had a policy about not letting patients have "souvenirs", so I didn't get to keep it. I even brought a pickle jar with me to keep it in. Drat. It's weird to not have my "radio knob" in my chest now. I don't really miss it, but I got used to it being there. If you just have to see it, well, check out this x-ray (not me).
Here is a good picture of one.The surgeon told me that mine had tissue growing all over it and that it would have been pretty gross to have kept it. Oh well.

That's what the jar was for. What a rip! Oh well, at least you can stand close to microwaves again.

Despite not getting to keep it, I'm sure not needing it anymore makes it all worth it. Glad you made it through everything well :)

what a great feeling it must be to have it gone and know that you don't need it anymore and that you beat it! glad you came through it ok. leigh

Does having it gone give you some sort of sense of "closure" to the past year? And I know your plan was inspired by Moe keeping part of his brain in a pickle jar on that Halloween episode of the Simpsons. ;)

Why is it that boys seem to want to keep the ickiest things just to show off to your friends! I am determined to believe that it is men and men only that enjoy deer/moose and other animal heads in their offices/rooms..... unless they make good coat racks!

Jay~ Yeah, and I was looking forward to impressing the women with my "science" jar.

Meggypoo~ Well, at least you got to feel it--the hunk'o'metal. Yeah, it was a real fun time having that lodged in my chest for over a year. Glad to have it gone.

Leigh~ Even though, physically, I'm in pain, I keep running my fingers over the spot and smiling at how flat the area is now.

Christielli~ For a girl that lives way up in Toronto, you sure know me well:) It does give me closure, btw. My mind can't seem to settle on what big thing I want to do first when I'm healed up. I'm thinking an epic hike is in order before the snow comes.

Chandra~ There was a time when I was little that I thought that there were such things as "Jackalopes", lol!

Tissue?! Really!? And you were not permitted to keep it! Think of all the delightful misunderstandings and shenanigans that could have ensued on the heels of some well-placed tissue samples. Pity and error, tragic error.

I kid you not - it looks like the antenna for my sirius satellite car radio.

Julie~ That's exactly what I was hoping would happen with this thing. Plus, you could clone me from the growth around the titanium housing, which would ultimately make for some kind of superhero.

Sun~ Yeah, it was weird that I actually got used to having that hunk lodged in my chest. It was worth every penny and inconvenience for what it did for me, though.

ha ha.. too funny. I tried to keep part of the metal cut outs they used when they radiated my breast for the cancer treatment. Wonder why everyone wants a souvenir? I didn't think about the port-a-cath. They wouldn't let me have those parts either. But I did convince the neurosurgeon to give me some screws when he had to go back in and remove them when they got loose after the bad brain tumor removal surgery. I got away with something. So glad to see you are all better now.
