It isn't Friday yet, but judging by the picture...

I had a vision the other night that I started my own version of Jan and Dean, but it was just me and an evil twin. The nearest I could tell what kind of music we did was a a Black Metal version of "Surf City" only using an electric banjo and howler monkeys throwing coconuts at the side of a barn. I don't know how, but Margret Thatcher was involved in some way.

Really, this silly story was just an excuse to do a post about Jan and Dean. They are actually very good. I have been listening to "Like a Summer Rain" over and over to keep me out of the Winter doldrums and it has been working. Thanks guys.

So, what music gets you out of the Winter blues?

I usually listen to "I'll Follow the Sun" or "Here Comes The Sun" by the Beatles. I am not sure why but they always cheer me up....I am a huge Beatles fan. I love them. I just can't help myself.

Sometimes I actually like listening to bleak, spare stuff in the bleak, spare days.

If I MUST knock it off, I can always try a little Moby or DMB, or an old shlocky 80s mix compilation... or some kicking dance rhythms... because winter or no, when you gotta shake yer ass, you gotta.

Two words: Death Metal.

Sometimes, like karyn, I'll just go with it, and wallow in the pathos with maybe the adagio from Mahler's fifth symphony.

On the flip side, any pop favorite usually gets the job done. Doesn't necessarily have to be perky, just reliable and loved...

I listen to Jimmy Buffett. That usually works...especially songs heavy on the steel drums. :)

I like listening to Classical music in the winter. I got the thing, by the way, this weekend. My ears were clogged though.

Whern me is suffering from the doldrums in either summer or winter, an overdose of The Who usally gets me back into a building stomping mood.

wut music gets me out of the Winter blues?

Evanescense, Nirvana, Guns N Roses...

I dun like listening to 'lively' music in Winter...it just doesnt suit the mood :) Something deep, dark and full of soul would do.

Keshi.

Damn, I'm like Keshi. I listen to the Cure during the winter and shift to more upbeat stuff during the summer.

Pokey~ Yeah, I can get into the Beatles right now for sure.

Vera~ Were you the one responsible for my vision?

G-Hobbs~ So, you are familiar with their work then.

Chica~ I sure did. Did you get busted again for listening to me at work this time?

Egan~ I have a brother in his mid-forties (a big gap) who is an obsessive record collector. So, I have access to tons of old or obscure stuff. These guys were mostly known for sugary surf music. Not always my deal, but once in a blue moon I have to have a fix. Either Jan or Dean co-wrote "Surf City" with Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys.

Karyn~ I do the bleak from Autumn and throughout the Winter, but I have to pepper it with super sugary stuff in order for it to be effective.

JJ~ I hear ya. I had been listening to Slayer, Celtic Frost, and Venom for awhile this Winter. I am all over the place with my musical taste.

Joe~ We have a lot in common in that regard. I also enjoy Mahler a great deal. My shtick may paint me as unrefined, but I know my classics. Well, maybe a touch raw.

O-Girl~ I haven't really got into Buffet. I should check some of his stuff out.

Nessa~ As long as you have it, you know?

SM~ The Who are one of my all time favorite groups, but I bust them out in about a couple of months or so.

Keshi~ Yes, I do understand that. I alternate between sunny and dark. I have no standard formula.

TG~ I have listened to Faith and Pornography recently. I have also thrown in some Joy Division for good measure.

Logo~ I hear your new fav is dead sexy.

I love listening to Joy Division and The Cure
